Keynote Speaker
Mark Clegg — Vice President, Retail, Deseret Book Company

D. Mark Clegg “Mark” (born June 9, 1963) is the Vice President of Retail Stores at Deseret Book Company, a content development and distributor owned by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. As part of his responsibilities at Deseret Book, Mr. Clegg oversees sales, marketing, and operations of 38 retail stores in nine western states. Born in Soda Springs, Idaho, Mark spent his childhood and youth working on various farms owned by his family and extended family. Of this time, he has said, “Long days on the farm taught me lessons about the virtue of working hard, integrity, communicating effectively, and being accountable for a given assignment or expectation.”

Mark is the 5th of seven children. “Growing up in a family of seven children forces you to learn compromise and collaboration. Not the kind of compromise where you settle for something against your values, rather, seeking to understand the others’ point of view and then working to find a common solution.” He and his wife, Cynthia, live in Cedar Hills, Utah and are the parents of four children (two sons and two daughters).

As a youth, Mark participated in sports, music and outdoor activities. He loves high adventure and thrills. He skydives, has driven over 165 miles an hour on a motorcycle and was blessed to do a ride-a-long with world renowned aerobatic stunt pilot Greg Poe. He attended Brigham Young University and was a member of the traveling performance group the Young Ambassadors. He has performed all over the United States in theater and graduated from BYU with a Bachelor’s Degree in Communications. His professional career has been spent in the field of sales and personal development. He spent 12 years with Franklin Covey with responsibility for the entire Eastern United States and Canada and has been with Deseret Book since July 2004.

For me, “Business, a sound thriving business, is really about establishing relationships of trust. Where there is mutual trust, both provider and client can truly connect, partner and prosper.”
