Development Workshop officially opened their doors in Rexburg on July 3, 1987 as Upper Valley Industries on 2nd East in the Porter Printing building. Their mission, then and now, has always been “to assist individuals who have a disability or who are disadvantaged to recognize and to achieve their chosen level of economic and social independence.” The way they achieve their mission is by providing vocational training, paid employment, job placement assistance, and daily living skills training to adults as well as skills building for children. Early-on, they manufactured wooden pallets, now production sewing is at the core of training. They are currently located at 275 Stationery Place where they perform contracts to sew U.S. Air Force apparel, sporting goods, and swim accessories. Development Workshop is an economic force in the community, employing 68 people, with an annual payroll of nearly $1 million. Last year, they served 83 individuals with disabilities and placed 17 into competitive, community-based jobs. Development Workshop is a diverse organization that truly is “more than you ever imagined.” Please call them today at 356.3722 to schedule a tour, volunteer, or to learn how they can assist your business by providing great employees or manufacturing solutions.
