Over 130 business’s and community leaders came together this last Wednesday for The Second Annual State of the Cities and County Breakfast.

Sally Smith of Century 21 High Desert introduced this year’s theme: “Focus on Commerce” before turning the time over to the three speakers:  Rexburg Mayor Jerry Merrill, Sugar City Mayor David Ogden, and Commissioner Jon Weber.

“If we work together we will be better than if we work against each other,” stated Sugar City mayor David Ogden.

Each speaker centered around one topic: growth, and how to make it happen.

“We as a city government are working on how we can control this growth and still have life stay somewhat the same,” said Rexburg mayor Jerry Merrill.

Additions to both cities and Madison County were announced including the building of a new YMCA in Sugar City, improving the overlook of the Teton Dam, and connecting the 4300 West street out by Yellowstone Bear World.

“The goal is to live young, have fun, and arrive at your final destination as late as possible with a smile on your face,” said County Commissioner Jon Weber in reference to the quality of life and future growth ahead in Madison County.

Sponsors from the breakfast were: Alliance Title &Escrow Corp., BYU-Idaho, Forsgren Associates Inc., Sugar City, The Atrium Event Center, City of Rexburg, Madison County, Upper Valley Realtors, Beehive Credit Union, Idaho Central Credit Union, Madison Memorial Hospital, and Washington Federal.
